bp-Outdoors.com was established in 1999 to provide those
interested in the great outdoors a means of quickly finding relevant
outdoors information. This is a family friendly site designed in
the interest of topic specific, organized, quick loading pages.
This site is for those who enjoy being outdoors with the purpose of
enjoying nature, wildlife and the great American outdoors. We
encourage visitors to explore the links to sites of interest and hope
you find the pages somewhat organized and not-too-clumsy to
navigate. We are also big fans of custom made knives including
Randall Knives, Treeman Knives and many others. We like new and
antique fishing lures, archery, bow hunting and shooting
muzzleloaders. Fishing, boating and camping are high onour list
of favorite activities as well. We enjoy golf and snow sports but
we are far from experts at either one.
Who are we?
We are 8th + generation American outdoorsmen and outdoors-women who are
still learning to use the internet to promote the outdoor
lifestyle. Of course, we know the term "outdoor lifestyle" can
mean different things to different people - we expect that and respect
that.
Our heritage includes family members going back in time who have
demonstrated a love for our country, who
have been proud to be a part of it through thick and thin... since the
early 1800's (and possibly even earlier). Evidence of our
great American heritage include cherished family photos, memorabilia,
tools, knives, guns, fishing gear, pocket watches and other collectors
items that speak to us about our past.... that have been passed on from
generation to generation.
An American Indian
Peace Pipe - handed down for generations tells us how we are
connected to the original life-blood and spirit of the outdoors.
Hand forged knives, hatchets and cleavers that our grand-father can
remember seeing made first hand by his Great-Uncle who was the
local Blacksmith and Ferrier. Our grand-father recalls seeing the
cherry-red steel being shaped by forge fire, hammer and anvil.
A 10 gauge double barrel shot gun with a curly maple stock with ornate
carvings of quail and pheasant with Damascus steel barrels sheds
insight into the values of our forefathers. This was just one of
our great grand father's guns and it tells us that he valued the
privilege of owning a fine firearm.
A gold American Waltham hunter's pocket watch dating back to 1891 with
an engraved wildlife scene and gold chain is an American Made time
piece that will continue to remind us of who we are and from where we
came. This watch belonged to our Great-great-grandfather which we
are told he ordered through the local hardware store. Today, we
value American Made products and craftsmanship in much the same way and
we look for "Made in USA" on the label when we make a purchase.
A bamboo fly rod and reel that belonged to our Great-great-grandfather
keeps our thoughts moving in the direction of mountain trout streams
and pools of moving water holding rainbows, brooks and largemouth bass.
Pocket knives made by Maher & Grosh were our Great-grandfather's
favorite brand because they held an edge like no other knife
could. We likely would not have ever heard of that brand if he
had not taken the time to share the importance of selecting a knife
made with a quality steel blade. His knife blades were dark and
stained from use and he kept them sharp for peeling apples and for use
in the garden.
Our great Great-grandfather installed the hickory handle on this
butcher knife that has been in continuous use in their kitchen since
the early 1950's. The handle was cut and shaped from a tree on
his property. This same knife is now in use in our mother's kitchen and
will continue to contribute to the preparation of great meals and the
nourishment of family members.
This sharpening stone is worn from use and no doubt has sharpened a
number of pocket knives. The box was made from a single piece of
wood - hollowed out to the exact size of the stone and was handmade by
our Great-grandfather. The stone was used to keep his knives
razor sharp.
We are also active in knifemaking. We like working with stag horn
for handles, ironwood, American chestnut and Micarta. Blade materials
include 1095, 440C and other high carbon tool stell alloys.
A number of our grand-parents and family members have each worked more
than 40 years to support the United States space program and have seen
more than their share of 80+ hour continuous work weeks - their
investment in our countries space program and technology infrastructure
are greatly appreciated and admired. Other relatives and family members
are equally invested in the success of the space program as well.
We can tell you that we like Michael Waddell, T-Bone (we refer to him
as "Fishstix") the Lakosky's, Will Primos, Jeff Foxworthy, Hank
Parker. We buy and listen to music by Toby Keith, Craig Morgan,
Uncle Kracker, Lee Ann Womack, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Taylor
Swift, Jason Aldean, Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Kenny
Chesney, Tim McGraw, Zac Brown, Miranda Lambert, The band Perry, Blake
Shelton, Trace Adkins, Jerron Niemann and many more...
So that's who we are and what we are all about - we hope it helps
explain a little about what you will find on our site and although the
site is far from what it should be, we hope it will help you find
something that connects you to your past or to your definition of the
perfect outdoor lifestyle.
