First choose a gun
that is made in America if at all possible. There are many great
used guns out there that are American made. You can find used
guns in your local classifieds or at Gander Mountain where a gunsmith
will help you understand the condtiion of the gun. Caliber is
the next consideration. Standard calibers for deer hunting
are 30-06, .270, .308 and 30-30 but there are many others that will
work under a variety of conditions. Decide what action suits your
needs. The most popular action is the bolt action for accuracy
and releiablity in the field. Pump, lever and semi-auto actions
are very good choices as well. Other actions include double
rifles and single shot rifles. If you expect to pack the rifle a
long distance look into the light weight versions that may be
available. There are more rsources below to help you learn more
about rifle accuracy and custom features for your rifle.
