WR Case Knife - Pattern Numbers

The Case Knife pattern number is stamped on the knife’s blade. The stampings are small and are located on the tang end of the blade nearest the handle.  The first number from the left indicates the type of material used to make the handle. The next digit gives the number of blades. The last two or more digits indicate the knife model pattern number.

5254 SS
  • The first number "5" stands for "Genuine Stag" - See Table I below.
  • The second number "2" stands for the number of blades on the knife.
  • The remaining number "54" stands for the pattern number - See Table II.
  • The letters "SS" stands for Stainless Steel.

Case Knife Info

The photo above provides an example of the last two digits in the Case pattern numbers.  The Trapper is the top knife and is numbered 54.  The Mini Trapper is numbered 07.  The table below provides pattern numbers for most all Case knives and is organized by pattern number.  This table allows you to take the last two numbers from your Case knife and determine the pattern name.  The number of blades is defined in the third number from the right and in the example above, the number of blades for the Trapper is 2 blades - the 5254 SS tells you that the knife has two blades.  The fourth number from the right is the handle material.  The top knife is burnt stag which corresponds to the number "5" in the 5254 SS pattern number.  The "6" indicates the lower knife is made from Jigged Bone, Jigged Synthetic or Jigged Laminate.  The "6" in 6207 SS for this knife stands for Jigged Bone and the color is Amber.  The "SS" stands for Stalnless Steel.

Example: Using these tables, what is the correct number for the Mid Folding Hunter at the top of this page?   It has genuine stag handles, a side clip, a stainless single locking blade - the answer can be found at the bottom of this page.
