Background:
Handloading or reloading is the process of making firearm cartridges or shotgun shells by assembling individual cartridge components including "brass" (main cartridge body), primer, powder, and bullet or lead shot pellets. Re-using ammo components by recycling previously fired cartridges is an excellent re-use initiative conserving valuable resources.  The two main types of loading are metallic cartridge (for rifle and pistol) and shot shell cartridge (for shotguns).

Equipment:
Basic equipment and tools required for reloading include reloading manuals, press, dies for each caliber, shell holders, weight scale, priming tool, powder measure, bullet puller, case trimmer, primer pocket cleaner and case tumbler.

Process Summary:

1. Case primer removal, cleaning, inspection, lubrication, measuring, deburring.
   
2. Case sizing (sizing die).
3. Case expanding (expanding die)
4. Install new primer.
5. Measure and add powder.
6. Seat bullet (seating and crimping die)
7. Inspect completed cartridge.
   

Loading Data:
Refer to multiple published sources and double check your numbers prior to beginning.  Owing more than one reloading manual is highly recommended.  The Lyman Reloading Handbook is a valuable resource and should be studied carefully when learning to load or as a reference for experienced loaders.  Using official published data from a reputable reloading manual is the only way to ensure your loads data is safe for your application.
