Ammo Production
Each year U.S. ammo manufacturers make about 8 billion rounds,
according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade
association for the firearms and ammunition industry. Current
production data suggests the numbers to be way up this year. The
increase in demand for firearms and ammunition is largely attributable
to gun owner concerns regarding the current political climate regarding
the current administration and worries that the tough economy will
spiral into social upheaval and lawlessness. There is a concern
that the new administration will push for restrictions, an increase in
taxes or other strict regulations
on firearms and ammunition. The concerns come from from hunters, target
shooters and from first-time gun owners who fear that there will be a
renewed effort to limit gun ownership. Private citizens who have
not previously expressed an interest in their ability to access
firearms
for personal protection are now very much concerned and actively
pursuing a means to obtain a firearm and ammunition.
Remington Ammunition Production
Remington Arms' ammunition plant in Arkansas is running around the
clock and that's with 1,000 employees. “We're working overtime to
produce ammo, but right now we cannot meet the demand,” said Linda
Powell, spokeswoman for Remington, which is headquartered in Madison,
N.C., near Greensboro.
"Winchester
Ammunition, like other ammunition manufacturers, has seen the demand
for our products increase significantly since last fall. To meet
that increased demand, our operations are running 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. Our team is literally working around the clock to
make quality ammunition available for purchase. We remain
absolutely committed to meeting the growing needs of our customers."
Hornady Ammunition Production
A message from Steve Hornady, president of Hornady Ammunition, on the
company's Web site reads: "Here at Hornady Manufacturing we are
breaking our own production records in an attempt to keep up with
customer demand. We have added extra shifts, machinery and we are also
in the process of expanding our manufacturing plant."

Ammunition Search Suggestions
Ammo manufacturers are ramping up production to
meet the growing demand. Also, many gun owners are finding
alternatives to traditional sources for their ammo needs. Many are
exploring reloading
their own ammunition to expand supply options, provide highly
customized loads and in some cases, reduce the cost of shooting.
Look for ammunition
at your local dealer first
they will often offer the best advice on when ammo might be available
and which dealers are expected to have ammo on hand.
Google search on
"ammunition" to find ammo
dealers in your area. A map of your area should show up with a
few dealers you may not have thought to try.
Work with the major
outdoor and shooting
catalog retailers and be willing to place an order using their
backorder system. You may have to wait a few weeks but at least
your order
will be in place while you try your local resources.
Shooting ranges
may have target ammo for sale
to allow you some practice time. Several shooting ranges will
sell you ammo to shoot at the range. This allows them to provide
ammo for customers to use at the range. Suggestion: If you
already have ammo, just hold onto it and shoot the ammo for sale at the
range. This keeps you from using up any ammo you may have on
reserve.
Save your brass!
If you do reload you are
already saving your brass. If you don't reload, your brass will
be
valuable since it can be recycled into new ammo by someone you know or
you may decide to learn reloading on your own! Some shooters are
able to take their brass to a local reloading business that takes their
spent brass casings and reloads them.
Remain diligent.
Ammo is filtering in through the normal supply
channels so check in with your local retailers and gun dealers often
and don't get discouraged or alarmed. Your interest and
investment in firearms for personal protection, hunting or sport
shooting is the best way to demonstrate that the importance of our
right and need to keep and bear arms.
